Karzai raps ‘disgusting act’ in photos

“The only way to put an end to such painful experiences is through an accelerated and full transition of security responsibilities to Afghan forces,” Karzai said in a statement on Thursday.

The Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday it received 18 such photos from a US soldier who wished the paper to draw attention to the lack of leadership, discipline and safety, which he believed compromised the security for his fellow troopers in Afghanistan.

The latest scandal comes more than a month after US soldiers opened fire on Afghan civilians inside their homes, killing at least 16 and injuring several others in the town of Panjwaii.

Another disaster struck the foreign forces in Afghanistan on February 20, when US soldiers burned the copies of the Holy Qur’an and other Islamic texts at the US-run Bagram Airbase in the city of Charikar in Parwan Province, provoking anti-US protests that left 36 people, including six American soldiers, dead.

Another embarrassing event involving US forces came on January 13 in a 39-second video showing US Marines urinating on Afghan corpses.

Scandals like these by American troops have strained relations between the United States and Afghanistan and deepened anti-American sentiments among Afghans.
There are currently some 130,000 US-led forces in the violence-hit country.
