Sept 18, 2011 – The captors transfer Mrs Tebbutt to Amara, a village
north of Harardhere, a city known to be a hub for pirates. Amara is where
Paul and Rachel Chandler were held after being seized from their yacht in
2009.
Sept 19, 2011 – Ali Babitu Kololo, the Kenyan man who reported the
crime, is
charged with kidnapping and violent robbery in connection with the
abduction.
Sept 20, 2011 – Amara village elders say Mrs Tebbutt has been moved
from Amara to an unknown location, in a bid to avoid being tracked down by
authorities. It is also reported that Mrs Tebbutt has fallen ill with a
fever.
Oct 1, 2011 – French officials announce that 66-year-old Marie Dedieu,
who is wheelchair-bound, was kidnapped by Somali gunmen on the north Kenyan
coast. Kenyan coast patrols engage in a gunfight with the captors, but are
unable to pursue once they reach Somali waters.
Oct 6, 2011 – the Kiwayu Safari Village where Mrs Tebbutt was kidnapped
and her husband David shot dead is reported to have been closed.
Oct 19, 2011 – French authorities says that Mrs Dedieu has died
following her kidnapping by Somali militants.
Oct 24, 2011 – the French navy bombards Somali militants at the town of
Kuday, who are believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of Western
tourists.
Oct 25, 2011 – Two Kenyan men, Ali Babitu Kololo and Issa Sheikh Saadi,
37, appear
before a magistrate in Kenya, charged with kidnapping and violent
robbery. Both plead not guilty.
Mar 8, 2012 – British engineer Christopher
McManus, killed during failed rescue mission in Nigeria, launched by
Special Boat Service and Nigerian army. Franco Lamolinara, an Italian
colleague, was also killed.
March, 21, 2012 – Mrs Tebbutt is
released by men reported to be pirates and flown to Nairobi, after
her family successfully raises and pays the ransom demanded by her captors.
