A Jubilee party marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne is to be held in the grounds of Parliament Buildings in Belfast on 27 June, with around 10,000 free tickets available to the public.
However, N Chuil N has criticized the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) for announcing the celebration without consulting Sinn Fein, the second-largest party in the Northern Ireland. N Chuil N also said that she has heard about the event through the media when the celebration was announced on Friday.
“I assume this is something that has been concocted by the NIO in discussions probably with the DUP [Democratic Unionist Party],” said N Chuil N.
“What we need to remember is that Stormont is a place, a shared site, the fact that this has been done without any discussion with ourselves sort of jars with me to be honest,” she added.
Criticisms from Sinn Fein’s minister come as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations have already been criticized for treating a former sex offender and involving slave labor.
Unemployed jobseeker had to work for free under hard conditions during the Queen’s Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on Sunday 3 June, with the convicted sex attacker Harbinder Singh Rana being invited to the exclusive celebrations by Prince Charles.
