A MELBOURNE man has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination after being charged with the stabbing murder of his partner in their Tel Aviv hotel room.
A judge at the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court ordered that John Paul Sebastian be remanded in custody for seven days and undergo a mental evaluation after he claimed that he was mentally ill and acted in self-defence, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Police and paramedics were called to the Dan Panorama Hotel in south Tel Aviv at about 4pm on Monday (Monday 11pm AEST) after shouting was heard in a 15th-floor room.
A woman’s body was discovered at the scene.
The 54-year-old victim was allegedly found with stab wounds to her upper body and neck, the Israeli daily Haaretz newspaper reported.
Police arrested Mr Sebastian, 45, allegedly in possession of the “stabbing implement”, according to the newspaper.

Police said that the couple arrived in Israel from Australia several days earlier.
