With Independence Day on the horizon, it’s an opportune time to look at a designer who is as true to his American roots as he is to ethical fashion. Enter Organic by John Patrick. Powerful hues–bright yellows, pinks, and blues–rule supreme, which draw attention to Patrick’s signature tailoring and layering, in his American-made Resort 2013 collection–don’t miss his Fall 2012 collection, here. Plus, you can expect dressing up and menswear, too.

Resort 2013 shares few casual pieces of Patrick’s past collections; it is decidedly all about dressing up, John Patrick-style. “Casual, to me, is not what I’m interested in or where we’re going. I think that it’s an overused word. It’s almost trying to seduce the customer, like, oh, it’s easy,” Patrick told Style.com.

“Easy is an adjective for turning on a faucet. I think that our identities are intrinsically hinged on getting dressed, and I think that dressing up is where it’s at.”

Stand out pieces include a green leather pleat skirt, a blue padded hooded jacket, a high-waist embroidered daisy skirt, and a sheer pale pink slip dress.

Dressing up for Resort 2013 is not all ball gowns and stilettos, it’s the elegance of the individual pieces. I was inspired by memories of Edit [deAk the co-founder of Art-Rite] getting ready and dressing up for parties such as dinners with Warhol at the Factory,” Patrick said in the show notes.

“She was an iconic woman who was at the epicenter of the Avant-garde; her contribution to the arts is just being discovered.”

Patrick’s man is sharp, but not too showy. Resort 2013 includes five menswear looks, including suits, shorts, and hooded jackets. Blues popped on the runway.
