JCPOA signatories convene in Vienna

March 17- The Iran Project – Signatories to Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers have held a new round of their periodic meetings in the Austrian capital which lasted about three hours to review its implementation amid US threats to kill the multilateral accord.

Representatives from Iran, the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany convened in the Austrian city of Vienna on Friday for a meeting of the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Joint Commission, or JCPOA.

The parties welcomed the fact that again the IAEA has confirmed Iran’s continued adherence to its commitments.

The European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement that: “all participants underlined their continued adherence to JCPOA commitments and stressed the need to ensure its effective implementation in all its parts in good faith and in a constructive atmosphere.”

“The meeting provided the opportunity to address the implementation of the JCPOA with regard to nuclear and sanctions-related commitments, as well as Procurement Channel matters. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – the body charged with monitoring and verifying Iran’s compliance with its nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 – has just issued its 10th report. The parties welcomed the fact that again the IAEA has confirmed Iran’s continued adherence to these commitments,” EEAS statement said.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Iranian delegation, chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi held separate bilateral meetings with the E3+3 members except for the UK team to discuss issues regarding the implementation of the nuclear deal as well as how to better implement it.

Araqchi told reporters in Vienna after the regular meeting of the JCPOA “we met with the French, German and Russian delegation yesterday (Thursday) and today (Friday), we met with the Chinese and American delegation.”

According to Iran’s deputy foreign minister “in the bilateral meeting with the American delegation, we only talked about the implementation of nuclear deal and the US violation of its obligations under the deal,” adding “we reminded them about a number of issues that we consider to be breaches of obligations or delay in fulfilling their obligations, especially in the area of airline purchasing licenses.”

Meanwhile, Iranian ambassador to UK Hamid Baeidinejad highlighted in a tweet on Friday that final statement of the joint commission of JCPOA in Vienna with US’ participation showed the continued strength of the Iran nuclear deal.

Also, managing Director of Iran Air (Homa) Farzaneh Sharafbafi told reporters on Friday the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) certificates in aviation field were discussed in the JCPOA joint commission held in Vienna.

Iranian delegation mentioned issues related to removing sanctions in aviation sector and negotiations are underway as regards lifting sanctions, Sharafbafi added.
