“Planning for making use of the renewable energies is one of the remarkable solutions to confront the air pollution,” Jahangiri said on Saturday, addressing the Economic Council Meeting.

He recalled the destructive effects of air pollution in different areas, specially its unfavorable effects on people’s health, and called on the relevant bodies to pave the way for presence of the private sector’s investors for construction of power plants which work with renewable energies.

Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, Economy Minister Ali Tayyebnia and several other ministers attended the Economy Council meeting on Saturday.

In September 2014, Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian announced that the Iranian Energy Ministry plans to establish a special zone for renewable energies.

Falahatian said Energy Ministry plans to develop renewable energies, particularly solar and wind energies, the oil ministry’s website reported.

He said that Khaf region in Northeastern Iran is potentially appropriate for installing wind turbines, adding that the private sector has been given the go-ahead to operate the project.

Falahatian said wind turbines, generating at least 200 megawatts, are planned to be installed in Khaf up to March 2016.

Falahatian said the efficiency rate from installing wind turbines in Khaf would be above 50 percent.

He added that National Development Fund of Iran (NDFI) and agent banks are ready to contribute.
