J. Murdoch resigns as NI chief

Jame’s resignation comes as more links between the British police and executives at the now defunct News of the World (NoW) have been revealed.

The Telegraph revealed that former Metropolitan Assistant Commissioner John Yates “enjoyed a series of previously undisclosed dinners, lunches and meetings with News of the World executives.”

Yates was forced to resign in July last year following revelations about his links with Neil Wallis, former NoW executive.

Nevertheless, in December last year, Yates was deployed in Bahrain to oversee the so-called “police reforms” as the Al Khalifa regime continued its brutal crackdown on anti-regime protesters.

As part of reforms to the Bahraini regime’s forces, Yates introduced kettling tactics to the Al Khalifa regime in February.

It emerged that Yates had links with other officials at the NoW including crime reporter Lucy Panton who had been told in a revealed email to “call in all those bottles of champagne” she had bought the commissioner.

However, Yates has denied that he had been “plied with champagne” to provide the newspaper with exclusive stories.

James Murdoch will be based in New York and act as the deputy chief operating officer of the News Corporation, News International’s parent company.

His father Rupert Murdoch praised him for his services in Britain saying “We are all grateful for James’ leadership at News International.”
