Italian soldiers injured in Afghan war

According to local sources, the incident took place in Afghanistan’s Herat Province.

Witnesses say the vehicle carrying the soldiers was destroyed in the attack, but no reports of any deaths have been released.

In the same area, three Afghan students were also wounded in an attack near their school.

Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, Afghan authorities usually hold the Taliban responsible for such attacks.

On Sunday, two US-led soldiers were killed in a militant attack in southern Afghanistan. Also four other soldiers were injured in the Uruzgan Province in a separate incident.

During the NATO-summit in Chicago on Sunday, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen ruled out any exit strategy for the US-led troop presence in Afghanistan before a 2014 timetable.

Since the start of the year, more than 160 foreign soldiers, mostly Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan.

The US-led invasion of Afghanistan was launched in 2001. The offensives removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across the country, despite the presence of about 130,000 foreign troops.

More than 3,000 civilians have been killed and 4,507 others wounded in war-related violence in 2011.
