Days of Palestine, West Bank –Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 800 children in Palestinian territories during October, PLO said on Tuesday.
PLO’s Palestinian Prisoners’ Committee (PCC) said that this number shows a dramatic development in the “aggressive attitude” of the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian children.
Since 2,000, the Israeli occupation has arrested 8,500 Palestinian children -600 children per year. “However, in October alone, it arrested 800,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the PCC criticised the new Israeli law, which was ratified by the Israeli Knesset and became active early this week.
The law stipulates a three-year prison sentence for children throwing stones. It also deprives the families of Palestinian children, who throw stones from national health insurance during the prison term of the youngsters.
In a statement, the PPC said that this law is part of a whole raft of “racist and vengeful” Israeli legislation.
“It contradicts all international conventions, which clearly protect children, respects their lives and safeguard their privacy,” the Committee insisted.
