Israeli forces shot, wound 70 Palestinian during peaceful protests

Israeli occupation forces shot and wounded 70 Palestinians during peaceful protest staged on Friday against US recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital.

Spokesman of the Palestinian Ministry of Health Ashraf al-Qidra said that most of the wounded shot in their legs, but sustained moderate injuries.

“The Israeli occupation forces used live ammunition against the unarmed Palestinian protesters along the borders of the Gaza Strip,” he said.

Last week, Israeli rights group B’Tselem accused the Israeli occupation forces of using lethal force against unarmed Palestinian protesters in Gaza.

“Protesters in Gaza do not post any danger on the life of the Israeli soldiers because the border fence separates both sides from each other,” the rights group said. “It is not anyhow the Palestinians can penetrate to the Israeli forces,” it stressed.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent said that the Israeli occupation used steal-coated-with rubber bullets and tear gas against the Palestinian protesters in different areas across the occupied West Bank.

It also said that its teams had offered field treatment for at least 45 Palestinian protesters, who suffered breathing difficulties due to the heavy use of tear gas.

The Palestinian territories have remained tense since early last month, when the US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, drawing widespread condemnation from across the Arab and Muslim world.

Since then, 18 Palestinians have been martyred — and thousands more injured — during protests in West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is the third holiest place on earth for about two billion Muslims around the world.
