“They are going to employ Saudi Arabia…,Turkey and the so-called North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to do it.”
“It seems to me that what we have here is a circumstance clearly where the United States and Britain and France and Israel want Assad out at all costs,” Dankof added.
He made the comments on the same day when diplomats meeting in Geneva reached an agreement on a Syrian-led transitional governing body that could include members of the current Syrian government and the opposition.
The foreign ministers of Russia, China, Britain, France, Turkey, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Arab League Secretary General Nabil El-Araby, and the secretary of state of the United States attended a meeting on the situation in Syria at the United Nations office in Geneva on Saturday.
UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Kofi Annan said the participants of the Geneva meeting agreed that the transitional governing body in Syria “could include members of the present government and the opposition and other groups, and shall be formed on the basis of mutual consent.”
The foreign ministers of Russia and China said after the meeting that any decision on a transition of power in Syria should only be made by the Syrian people.
The anti-Syria Western governments have been calling for the Syrian president to step down, but Russia and China remain strongly opposed to the Western drive to oust Assad.
