A senior official from Palestinian resistance group Hamas says the Israeli regime is bringing up new demands in the ongoing ceasefire talks in an attempt to kill chances of a long-term agreement.
Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq said on Tuesday that Israel’s new demands undermine the current ceasefire negotiations in Cairo.
The Egypt-brokered talks began last week after a month-long deadly war by the Zionist regime on the impoverished Palestinian territory.
The negotiations center on an Egyptian proposal that meets some of the Palestinian demands, such as easing the blockade of Gaza Strip.
Diplomatic sources say there seems to be no tangible progress in the indirect negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis in Cairo.
The contentious subject at the talks is the issue of the Israeli blockade of the impoverished territory.
Palestinian officials have indicated that the ceasefire will not be extended if no progress is made. Hamas wants the seven-year siege to be raised, but Tel Aviv says it will take the measure only if Hamas disarms.
Meanwhile, another Palestinian delegation, led by Hamas, is in Qatar to discuss a proposal for a long-term truce.
Nearly 2,000 Palestinians, including 470 children, have lost their lives and more than 10,200 have been wounded since the Israeli military unleashed fatal assaults on the Gaza Strip more than a month ago.
A panel appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council is expected to start investigating the crimes committed by Israel in its war on Gaza.
