‘Israel behind arrest of Iranians in Kenya’

On Monday, Kenyan official claimed that the Iranians, who were arrested in June over alleged involvement in terrorist activities, planned to attack several targets in Kenya, mostly Israeli interests.

There have been certain moves by the Zionist regime in this region, and we have obtained evidence that this is an Israeli scenario, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told the Fars news agency on Friday.

He said that Israel devised the plot to undermine the growing ties between Iran and Kenya, adding that there was no evidence proving the charges.

“This is more media hype,” Amir-Abdollahian said and expressed hope that the case would be dismissed due to the lack of supporting documentation.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said last month that the media hype about the arrests of the two Iranians was meant to undermine Iran-Kenya ties.

“Given the very good and friendly ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Kenya, it seems that certain foreign media outlets seek to harm the consolidated and respectful bilateral relations by spreading and disseminating such information and accusations,” he said.
