“Under the circumstances that all big powers have been united to inflict damage on the Syrian nation, the Iranian people have an unchangeable stance on Syrians and will always stand by them,” said Rahimi in a meeting with Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister Omar Ibrahim Ghalawanji in Tehran on Wednesday.
He described Syria as the axis of resistance against the hegemonic system and added that the Syrian nation would strongly resist against enemies’ plots.
The Iranian vice president stressed the importance of strengthening national unity and resistance in Syria and stated that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is making “positive and constructive” reforms in the country.
Ghalawanji, for his part, said that Syria is exposed to bullying powers’ ‘huge schemes’ and emphasized that the Syrian people would succeed in resolving the ongoing crises through their solidarity and integrity.
He added that the Syrian people have a resolve to defend their positions and ideals, and would settle their issues with the support of their real friends.
Syria has been the scene of unrest since mid-March, 2011. The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters. But Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
