TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy Chief of Staff of Presidential Office for Political Affairs Hamid Aboutalebi condemned the gun and bomb attacks on Istanbul’s Ataturk international airport which killed 36 people and injured more than 140 others, describing it as blind terrorism.
“Attacking the Istanbul airport means killing the innocent people” in the holy month of Ramadan, “cruelty and brutality” and “blind terrorism to spread violence”, Aboutalebi wrote on his webpage on Wednesday.
He extended his condolences to the Turkish people and bereaved families of the victims, and said, “Remaining beside the country (Turkey) in fighting against terrorism means Islamic brotherhood.”
Three attackers began shooting outside and inside the terminal late on Tuesday and blew themselves up after police fired at them, officials say.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said early signs suggested the ISIL was behind the attack.
Recent bombings have been linked to either the ISIL or Kurdish separatists.
Pictures from the airport terminal showed bodies covered in sheets, with glass and abandoned luggage littering the building.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the attack should serve as a turning point in the global fight against militant groups.
“The bombs that exploded in Istanbul today could have gone off at any airport in any city around the world,” he said.
