TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani censured the US government for its failure to fulfill its duties under the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers (JCPOA), calling for practical moves by Washington instead of making “statements”.
The US government’s failure to meet its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has prevented American banks from making transactions with Iranian banks, Larijani told the Arabic-language Al Mayadeen TV network.
“We do not need statements. (US Secretary of State John) Kerry says we (Americans) have issued statements and these banks, themselves, do not want to interact (with Iran)” Larijani said, adding, “We know that they issue statements in the world of politics and do something else behind the scenes.”
He further called for a practical move by the US to remove Iran’s problems in interactions with foreign banks, according to its obligations under the JCPOA.
The Iranian parliament speaker also warned that if the Americans fail to resolve the issues, it means that Washington has not fulfilled its commitments and Iran could, therefore, reconsider the nuclear deal.
While the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), came into force in January, some Iranian officials complain about the US failure to fully implement the accord.
Back in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Americans have yet to fulfill what they were supposed to do as per the nuclear deal.
Iran still has problems in its banking transactions or in restoring its frozen assets, because Western countries and those involved in such processes are afraid of Americans, the Leader said at the time, criticizing the US for its moves to prevent Iran from taking advantage of the sanctions removal.
