Iran’s FM Zarif urges global efforts against terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted the importance of concerted global efforts against terrorism.

At a meeting with Chairman of the French Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Commission Jean-Pierre Raffarin in Paris on Wednesday, Zarif stressed that an effective fight against terrorism requires  serious global cooperation.

He added, “We, as a victim of terrorism, are ready for any kind of cooperation to tackle this global issue”.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister referred to Tehran-Paris ties, calling for closer parliamentary relations that could help the two nations have deeper interaction with one another.

Zarif noted that President of France’s National Assembly Claude Bartolone is scheduled to travel to Tehran next week to cement the two country’s inter-parliamentary friendship and ties.

Zarif arrived in Paris on Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation on the first leg of a two-nation European tour, which will also take him to the Netherlands.

On Wednesday, he also held talks with his counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault and Senate President Gerard Larcher.

He is also scheduled to meet with French President Francois Hollande as well as reporters and journalists in the French capital and give an exclusive interview with the Paris-based television news channel France 24.
