Iran’s deputy FM to brief MPs on JCPOA implementation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is scheduled to attend a session of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to give a report on the latest status of implementation of a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Nozar Shafiee, a member of the commission, said Araqchi is scheduled to take part in the commission’s meeting on Monday.

According to the lawmaker, members of the parliamentary commission will have time for asking the top negotiator questions about the process of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nation’s achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has a duty to monitor “the proper implementation” of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA, a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The accord took effect in January, terminating all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
