Iranian President congratulates Chinese counterpart on second term

Tasnim – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated China’s president on his re-election, expressing the hope that the relations between the two countries would develop more than ever during his second term in office.

In a message to Xi Jinping on Saturday, Rouhani felicitated his re-election as the Chinese president and said during his first term, relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Iran have remarkably developed.

He further said during Xi’s “historic trip” to Iran in 2016, major strides were taken in line with efforts to cement the ties between Tehran and Beijing.

China’s parliament on Saturday unanimously re-elected Xi as the country’s president.

In January 2016, the Chinese president paid a visit to Iran and met with senior Iranian officials, including Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

During his visit, high-ranking officials from Iran and China signed 17 cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) as part of efforts to boost bilateral relations between the two Asian countries in diverse political and economic fields.
