Iranian painter Mansoureh Hosseini dies

The renowned artist was hospitalized at the Critical Care Unit of a Tehran hospital and later died in her home.

Hosseini graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Tehran in 1949. She continued her studies at the Rome Academy of Fine Arts and made her debut at the 28th (XXVIII) Venice Biennial in 1956.

Hosseini won several awards at the Tehran Painting Biennial after returning to Iran in 1959. She exhibited her works at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts in 2004.

Known for her figurative and abstract works, Hosseini often included elements of the Kufic script in her paintings.

Her works incorporate traditional elements of both Persian and contemporary European cultures.

Hosseini displayed her works in many solo and group exhibitions in Iran, Italy and the Czech Republic. She has also won numerous awards at Venice Biennial and the Rome Quadriennale.
