“This measure under the present circumstances shows that [officials of] Saudi Arabia have not taken a legal approach to this issue and have been pursuing political goals,” member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, said on Saturday.
The lawmaker said executing Iranian prisoners on false charges was in line with Saudi Arabia’s previous scenario about Iran’s alledged plan to assassinate Saudi ambassador in Washington.
“We have no doubt that the US plays a crucial role in Saudi Arabia’s anti-Iran scenario and the [media] hype they created against Iran at that time was just a prelude to their current actions,” he added.
The Iranian lawmaker also took international bodies to task for their complete silence in the face of the Saudi execution of Iranian citizens.
“We have frequently seen in international organizations how international bodies and countries claiming to be advocates of democracy condemn such measures, but today, they have remained silent in the face of Saudi Arabian measures,” Naqavi Hosseini said.
He expressed surprise that no human rights organization has reacted to this incident so far and urged human rights organizations to show an appropriate reaction to the execution of Iranian prisoners.
On April 18, Press TV reported that Saudi officials had executed eight Iranian sailors in the eastern city of Dammam without any legal proceedings.
According to the Saudi Al-Tagheer news channel, the executions were carried out on April 15 on the order of the Saudi Interior Ministry, which has been implicated in the unrest in Syria and the violence in Iraq as well.
On May 30, the Persian-language Tabnak news website reported that Saudi officials in Dammam have executed 10 more Iranian citizens.
The website added that a total of 25 Iranians are kept at Dammam prison and 18 of them have been executed in two stages.
The prisoners are Iranian sailors who were arrested on a fishing boat in international waters 70 miles off the coast of Saudi Arabia six years ago on charges of drug possession.
