Iran urges UN action on profane movie

“All of us should feel obliged to express our hatred toward profane actions against all religions, and condemn such actions as hate crimes,” Salehi wrote in a letter to Ban on Monday.

“We should also take legal action against the perpetrators of such crimes and insulting acts so that they would be held accountable for their irresponsible measures,” the letter read.

Salehi said the blasphemous film had hurt the religious sentiments of “hundreds of millions of Muslims” across the world and has “ignited religious hatred among the followers of other religions.”
“This sacrilegious act should ring the alarms for all of us and unite us against such hate crimes.”

“The bitter reality is that this sacrilegious act has been committed by a person with a long history of promoting Islamophobia and instigating religious and racial violence,” the Iranian minister noted in the letter.

Anti-US demonstrations, which began on September 11 over the insulting film, have been held across the Muslim and non-Muslim countries, with protesters storming the US embassies and torching the US flags.
