Iran, Turkey border crossings closed

Orumyieh, West Azarbaijan prov., July 16, IRNA – Following a military coup attempt in Turkey, all border crossings between Iran and Turkey have been closed until further notice.

According to unofficial local resources, three border crossings namely Bazargan Border in North, Razi in Khoy and Sarv in Orumyieh which are official borders between Iran and Turkey were closed on Saturday.

In the wake of a military coup attempt in Turkey, Iranian army forces are on high alert in 580km of Iran-Turkey joint border lines.

West Azarbaijan is the only province having common border with Turkey.

Some units of Turkish military, in a failed attempt on Friday night, tried to topple the government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. According to Turkey’s Ministry of Justice around 60 people have been killed and many have been arrested in the coup attempt.
