“The whole play is a monologue, which will be delivered without intermission in two and a half hours,” Khaki told ISNA describing it as a unique theatrical performance.
The one man play was first presented experimentally at the Theatre Royal, Bristol by Peter O’Toole in 1974.
Its world premiere followed in 1975 with Colin Blakely starring in a production by Sir Peter Hall at the ICA, London. The play has been translated into ten languages and performed in almost 20 countries.
There was also a revived production at the National Theatre, London in 1979, featuring the Oscar-winning British actor, Ben Kingsley.
Born in 1941, Barry Collins worked as a journalist for seven years before turning playwright in 1971.
Khaki has staged numerous plays by international dramatists, including The Terrace an absurd comedy by French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere, which highlights the inanity of life at the end of the modernist era.
He was also a member of the selection board for the First Monologue Theater Festival held at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural and Historical Complex in October 2006.
