Iran to sign accord to remove heart of Arak Power Plant

TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – The head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has said Iran and 5+1 will meet to discuss removal of the heart of Arak Power Plant on upcoming Monday.

Ali Akbar Salehi told reporters on the sidelines of the First National Congress of Soldiers of Peace on Wednesday that Arak Power Plant heart would be removed, however, the 5+1 should also carry out its quota of commitments; “part of the commitment was fulfilled on Tuesday which was closure of PMD of Iran’s nuclear program; a second part is a basal accord to be signed with Iran and Powers which we hope to be carried out on upcoming Monday,” he told reporters.

“If on Monday the 4th agreement of understanding is signed, the process of removing the heart of the power plant will be launched,” Mr. Salehi added. On a question of the time of dismantling centrifuges, he said that the same process for dismantling of centrifuges was also repeated; “in the past we had been phasing out the inactive centrifuges; now however, the turn has come to active and working centrifuges; the whole process is predicted to be carried out within 3 to 4 weeks to see that sanctions are eliminated by early January,” he said.

“Of about 20,000 centrifuges, 14,000 will be dismantled within a month,” Salehi told the press. On the impact of Amano’s report on Iran’s military and defensive capacities and activities, he said that Amano’s report contradicted the provisions of the resolution, where he presents his own interpretation; however, “our major text is the resolution, and Articles 9, 11, and 13 clearly assert that all resolutions of the past are cancelled and PMD is removed from the agenda. In normal agenda, the IAEA will have surveillance over Iran’s activities guided by the framework drawn by the JCPOA.”

“Some articles of the resolution are clearly redundant. By these articles, they [powers] probably justified their 12 years of pressure and sanctions against Iran,” Salehi believed.

“In a recent press conference, Amano told reporters that the pressures sought to make Iran malleable and come to cooperate with the Powers. They justify the pressures on the premise that Iran had been working on simulation or numerical modelling of neutron transport before 2003; if we were working on simulations, we are right and they are in err with their claims; now, they have no pretext whatsoever and the international public opinion is aware of the state of affairs,” he concluded.
