“We are ready to open consulates in Canada, Sweden, China, and Afghanistan. We have reached agreement with some countries and are negotiating with others,” Hassan Qashqavi, Foreign Ministry’s deputy for consular, parliamentary, and expatriates affairs said on Friday.
He added that consulates meet the general needs of expatriates in countries with a big Iranian population, Mehr News Agency reported.
The official said Iran is ready to establish consulates in most countries after reaching agreements with their governments.
Qashqavi said proposal for establishment of new consulates should be first submitted to the Iranian cabinet for the allocation of necessary budget and manpower.
“We travel to different countries for consular negotiations and I am going to visit Turkmenistan and Iraq in this regard in the near future,” he noted.
The deputy foreign minister stated that a delegation from Philippines will visit Tehran in the near future to discuss consular affairs with Iranian officials.
