Iran to launch 1st South Pars gas refinery

The project manager, Javad Malekinia, noted on Tuesday that the new refinery, built by Iranian experts, will be capable of refining 12.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

He added that all construction stages including design, engineering, processing, mechanical installations and instrument have been carried out by a consortium comprising two Iranian companies.

“When the first stage of the development project for the South Pars phases 15 and 16 comes on stream, a total of 500 million cubic feet per day of gas produced by both phases will be refined,” the official said.

Malekinia stated that the second phase of the refinery project will become operational 1.5 months after the completion of the first phase and the remaining two phases will come on stream at two-month intervals following the second phase.

Phases 15 and 16 of the huge South Pars gas field are being developed by an Iranian consortium comprising ISOICO, Offshore Industries Company, Iran Offshore Engineering and Construction Company, and Dana Kish Drilling Company.

The main goals of developing phases 15 and 16 of the South Pars gas field include producing 50 million cubic meters of refined natural gas per day for injection into the national gas network, 1.05 million tons of LPG and one million tons of ethane as feedstock for petrochemical plants, as well as a daily 75,000 barrels of condensate and 400 tons of sulfur.
