The event will present 11 puppet shows from Italy, Germany, Georgia, South Korea, Belarus, Afghanistan, Turkey and India.
The annual festival will be held from July 1 to 5, 2012 in different theater halls. Tehran’s City Theater grounds, Golestan Palace and Iran’s House of Artists will host this year’s street performances.
Organized by the Iran office of UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette – International Puppetry Association), the festival will also hold workshops on various puppetry subjects.
Previous editions of the event hosted many puppet theater masters such as French Costume and puppet designer Fleur Marie Fuentes.
Fuentes designed the world’s tallest puppet, a six-meter tall marionette during Iran’s 13th Mobarak International Puppet Theater Festival.
She also held workshops, teaching Iranian artists how to make puppets out of recycled materials.
Persian theater background goes back to antiquity (641-1000 BCE) when people glorified their national heroes and humiliated the enemy in ceremonial theaters.
