‘Iran to add 30 ships to passenger fleet’

Managing Director for Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Abdolkarim Razzazan said the USD 49-million enhancement of the Iranian maritime fleet constitutes “a great stride in phasing out the old and traditional vessels.”

He said Iran’s vessels ferried about 10 million passengers in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2012).

The Iranian official added that most of the voyages had been recorded on the sea routes connecting the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, the Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf Island of Kish.

Razzazan concluded by expressing optimism that the addition of the new ships would further expand and facilitate maritime passenger transport in the future.
