FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda “The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran will pursue the [issue of] the execution of imprisoned Iranian nationals in Saudi Arabia in international circles,” spokesman for Iran’s Majlis Legal and Judicial Committee Mohammad Ali Esfenani said on Sunday.
He added that the executions were a politically-motivated measure, considering Riyadh’s interference in regional events and its approach towards the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian legislator emphasized that a fair trial should have been held for the Iranian prisoners in Saudi Arabia and added that criminal investigations, particularly in the international scene, should be “clear and transparent.”
On April 18, Press TV reported that Saudi Arabia had executed eight Iranian sailors in the eastern city of Dammam without any legal proceedings.
According to the Saudi Al-Tagheer news channel, the executions were carried out on April 15 on the order of the Saudi Interior Ministry.
On May 30, the Persian-language Tabnak news website reported that Saudi Arabia has executed 10 more Iranian citizens in Dammam.
The website added that 18 of the 25 Iranians kept at the Dammam prison had been executed in two stages.
The 25 Iranian nationals were sailors who were arrested on a fishing boat in international waters 70 miles off the coast of Saudi Arabia six years ago on charges of drug possession.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Saudi Arabia’s chargé d’affaires on June 11 to express the Islamic Republic’s strong objection to the executions and to announce that Tehran will pursue the case via the relevant organizations.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry plans to send a delegation to Saudi Arabia over the issue.
