“Iraq is an important and strategic neighbor for Iran and the Islamic Republic condemns any efforts meant to create instability and insecurity in Iraq,” said the Chairman of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in a meeting with head of the Iraqi parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee Humam al-Hamoudi on Saturday.
The Iranian lawmaker pointed to the historical, cultural and religious ties between the two countries and underlined the need for developing and expanding Tehran-Baghdad relations.
Boroujerdi praised the Iraqi nation for having the vigilance to expel foreign occupying forces and expressed satisfaction with the reconstruction trend in Iraq despite all problems the country faces.
He warned against enemy plots to cause a rift between Muslims and called for promotion of unity among Muslim nations.
The Iraqi official, for his part, praised Iran’s role in the construction of Iraq and expressed hope for more cooperation between the two countries.
