‘Iran shuns opportunistic view to nations’

“In line with its humane and Islamic principles, the Islamic Republic of Iran will never pursue a mere opportunistic view in its relations with other countries,” said Salehi in a meeting with Sri Lankan Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa in Tehran on Tuesday.

Iran believes that its relations should be based on the interests of independent countries, he said.

The Iranian minister emphasized that despite the pressure of hegemonic powers, the Iranian government and nation will proceed on the path of progress and independence.

Salehi pointed to the amicable relations between Tehran and Colombo in areas of politics, economy and trade, and expressed hope that the two countries would further improve their ties.

Weerawansa, for his part, said the Sri Lankan government backs the participation of Iran’s public and private sectors in the construction and infrastructure development of his country, particularly in the fields of housing and urbanization.
