‘Iran role strategic for PG oil security’

Pointing to Iran’s strategic position in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, Commander of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi emphasized in a Wednesday address at an IRGC naval base in the southeastern port city of Chabahar that enemies have become ever more conscious of our nation’s key geographical location.

They are aware that firing one bullet in the Persian Gulf will lead to the economic collapse of the Western world, he added.

Rear Admiral Fadavi noted that in October 1987 global stock markets crashed to record low levels following enemy attacks against two of Iran’s oil platforms, Reshadat and Resalat, in the Persian Gulf.

The Iranian commander then pointed out that today, the global energy dependence on the Persian Gulf is far greater than in 1987 and, subsequently, the [naval] capabilities of the Islamic Republic have significantly advanced since then.

Noting that military threats against Iran throughout its history have been focused on its ground borders, Fadavi stressed that today the country is also threatened from the sea and must therefore upgrade and enhance its [sea-based] defense capabilities.

Rear Admiral Fadavi’s remarks came at a ceremony introducing a new commander for IRGC’s Imam Ali (PBUH) Naval Base in Chabahar, Sistan-and-Baluchestan Province.
