Deputy Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on Monday that the negotiations had two “major and shinning” results for the Iranian nation.
First, he said, was that Western powers realized the truth of the assertions by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that Iran is neither in possession nor in pursuit of nuclear weapons as it is against the principles of Islamic teachings.
And the second result of the talks, Salami added, was “the acceptance of Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology.”
Iran and the P5+1 group – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany – wrapped up two rounds of negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday and agreed to hold the next round of talks in Baghdad on May 23, 2012.
The EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton described the talks as useful and constructive, saying that Iran has the right to have a civilian nuclear program.
Tehran and the P5+1 group previously held two rounds of talks, one in Geneva, Switzerland in December 2010 and another in Istanbul in January 2011.
“We hope that the outlook of the talks will continue with the same positive trend and towards asserting the interests of the Islamic Republic in the peaceful nuclear energy sector,” Salami concluded.
