Despite intensive efforts by hackers to penetrate into the network, the cyber attack failed to impact the data system, read a Sunday statement by the Iranian ministry, Fars news agency reported.
It further said ‘the proper measures and full preparedness’ of relevant departments at the ministry helped repel the attack.
On April 23, the Iranian Oil Ministry spokesman said a cyber attack targeting the country’s petroleum ministry and the National Iranian Oil Company also failed to affect their key data.
According to the official, all the primary and secondary data were backed up, and there was no concern regarding the issue.
Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Hamdollah Mohammadnejad said on April 28 that the target of and the perpetrators behind the recent cyber attack on the Oil Ministry had been identified.
“The nature of the attack and the agents behind it have been identified, but because we are still working on the case, it cannot be announced,” Mohammadnejad said.
After the malware attack was discovered, the ministry’s cyber team immediately set up a team of experts and disconnected the internal structure’s access to the Internet, he said.
They came up with strategies to counter the attack after conducting necessary inspections, Mohammadnejad added.
He further said that the cyber system of the ministry is currently working properly and the servers have been recovered and put back into service.
