“All Iranian diplomats in Syria are safe and sound, and are doing their routine tasks,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular and Iranians Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said on Wednesday.
He added, “Certain Arabic-language television networks like Al-Arabiya have launched psychological warfare in Syria under the pretext of establishing a bloody democracy in order to bolster the position of terrorist gangs.”
Qashqavi also described Al-Arabiya’s approach to the Syria unrest as hostile to the Syrian nation, government and Damascus’ allies like Tehran.
“Hostile media have on many occasions published unfounded reports which have been rejected by the Islamic Republic’s officials,” he noted.
The Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news network, citing Syrian rebel sources, said on Wednesday that an Iranian diplomat had been murdered in Damascus.
Contrasting accounts released by Al-Arabiya and the Qatari-owned Al-Jazeera channel on the developments in Syria reveal how the two Arab media outlets fabricate news reports on incidents in the conflict-plagued Arab state on the basis of obscure sources.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011, with many people, including large numbers of security forces, killed in the turmoil.
While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of the killings, Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
