‘Iran ready to build Bulgarian refinery’

“As far as Iran is concerned, there are no problems to implement this project. In terms of the know-how and technology as well as the management and investment needed for this project, Iran has all the essential capacities,” Sofia News Agency quoted Gholamreza Baqeri Moqadam as saying in an exclusive interview.

The Iranian official went on to say that, “Given the two countries’ long friendly ties, Iran is ready to implement the project in the framework of bilateral interests.”

Baqeri Moqadam said that it is now up to the Bulgarian authorities to use this capacity adding, “If the Bulgarian officials show willingness, we are ready to discuss the project with them.”

Referring to the recent sanction imposed on the Islamic Republic by the EU, the Iranian ambassador added that, “We are convinced that, regretfully, the EU has taken a wrong path in its attitude towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Baqeri Moqadam had announced earlier in September 2011, Iran’s willingness to build an oil refinery near the Bulgarian city of Varna.

Iran holds the world’s third-largest proven oil reserves and the second-largest natural gas reserves.
