‘Iran ready for talks with P5+1’

“Those who think Iran will change its logical and legitimate approach under pressure and sanctions are mistaken. Iranian people have never compromised on their inalienable rights,” Khazaei said in an interview with National Public Radio (NPR).

The US, Israel and their allies accuse Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and have used this allegation as a pretext to impose unilateral and international sanctions on Iran.

Referring to upcoming talks between Iran and the P5+1–Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany–, Khazaei said Iran “is ready for serious talks without preconditions.”

Iran and the P5+1 have agreed to hold another round of talks, presumably in Turkey.

The two parties held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in the Turkish city of Istanbul last January.

Stressing that Iran is not pursuing military objectives in its nuclear programs, Khazaei said, “Iran is concerned about nuclear weapons in the Middle East and in other countries and that Iran is among those [states] that proposed the international disarmament resolution.”

In November 2011, the UN General Assembly endorsed an Iran-sponsored resolution on nuclear disarmament which reiterates the urgency for a nuclear-free Middle East and demands that the Israeli regime sign the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Iran has repeatedly refuted Western allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
