FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda In a meeting with Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy on Syria, the Iranian minister pointed to Syria’s strategic position in the region and said the ongoing unrest in the Middle Eastern country should be resolved through talks and the reforms proposed by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, Salehi added that foreign interference would merely complicate the status quo in Syria.
In a separate meeting with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the director-general of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Iran’s top diplomat made reference to the issue of nuclear disarmament and said the Islamic Republic supports all plans aimed at dismantling nuclear weapons.
As a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran calls for the restoration of its rights in accordance with the international agreement, Salehi noted.
He also pointed out that Tehran has always had constructive cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and opposed nuclear weapons over the religious values championed by the Islamic Republic.
Iran welcomes the establishment of a Middle East free of nuclear weapons, he pointed out.
In another meeting between Salehi and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, the two sides exchanged views on human rights issues and the latest developments in the Middle East.
