FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda If they seek to go with their previous course of action and try to force concessions under pressure, negotiations will yield no results, Larijani said Wednesday.
He criticized the West’s double standards when it came to nuclear issues, arguing that Western countries remained silent on nuclear weapons held by the Israeli regime but piled pressure Iran over its peaceful nuclear energy program.
They are fully aware that Iran is not after nuclear bombs but they pressure Iran for other excuses, arguing that they seek to prevent Iran form allegedly achieving nuclear weapons in the future, Larijani added.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton sent a letter to Secretary of Iran Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, on Tuesday, calling for the resumption of talks between the two sides.
“On behalf of China, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, the United States of America (the group’s member states), I have offered to resume talks with Iran on the nuclear issue,” she said in a televised statement.
“Our overall goal remains a comprehensive negotiated, long-term solution, which restores international confidence in the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, while respecting Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, consistent with the NPT (nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty),” Ashton said in the letter.
Iran and the P5+1 held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in the Turkish city of Istanbul last January.
Tehran says it is ready to continue the talks based on common ground, adding, however, that it has no intention of backing down on its nuclear rights.
As a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran maintains that it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
