‘Iran-P5+1 talks, test for Russia’

The talks are important as far as Moscow’s role in the negotiations and its influence in achieving results are concerned, Member of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Mehdi Sanaei said on Monday.

Sanaei said relations between Iran and Russia have always been under the influence of Moscow’s ties with Washington.

Describing Iran as “one of the most important issues in Russian foreign policy,” the Iranian lawmaker said it was high time that Moscow freed itself from the influence of the third party on its relations with Iran.

“The opportunities that have arisen in bilateral relations between Iran and Russia, and the new regional and international conditions could help improve the ties [between the two countries], Sanaei said.

During their talks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad in May, Iran and the P5+1 – Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany – agreed to hold another round of negotiations in Moscow on June 18-19.

The P5+1, however, has refused to discuss an agenda for the Moscow negotiations.
