Iran MPs censure Ahmadinejad remarks

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appeared before Majlis on Wednesday to respond to several inquiries by lawmakers on a variety of issues.

The long list of questions included his management of the economy, employment, inflation, domestic policies, the subsidy reform plan and his recent appointment and removal of key officials.

“The vocabulary used by the president during his speech was offensive,” Iranian lawmaker Mostafa Reza-Hosseini said.

“Just as we thought, the president had not prepared himself to give a convincing response to Majlis and evaded the questions,” Reza-Hosseini added.

In reply to the lawmakers’ call that the parliament must respond to Ahmadinejad’s remarks, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said, “It is obvious that this (Majlis) is no place for jokes. It is rather for serious discussions. But we are [more] concerned about the content and whether [our] questions were answered or not.”

“I think that some things should not have been said here, but the fact that some questions were raised and responded, even if you did not accept the answers, was the right thing to do,” Larijani told the lawmakers.
