Iran MP says UN rights report biased

“We witness double-standard approaches in human rights circles … so that they are silent on the atrocities committed by the US and the Zionist regime [of Israel] and have no reaction,” Head of the Majlis Human Rights Committee Zohreh Elahian said Sunday.

The dishonest approach towards Iran aims to mislead world public opinion, and besmirch the Islamic Republic as a violator of human rights, IRNA quoted her as saying.

Elahian said such claims are being made irrespective of the fact that Iran has been the main victim of terrorism, and certain Western countries sponsor and support terrorist outfits in their anti-Iran bids.

She added that outsiders, who are militarily present in the Middle East, promote terrorist hostilities and fund terror teams to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists and scholars.

Elahian argued that Shaheed’s report was circulated among Western media outlets before Iranian officials read it and responded to it.

“Such behavior b y Shaheed clearly demonstrates that their real intention was to launch a psywar against Iran,” she added.

She also expressed surprise over the compilation of Shaheed’s report, highlighting that the UN official has contacted Iranian exiles as well as anti-Iran groups to write his report, and has not got in touch with the local NGOs inside Iran about the realities of the country.

This kind of reporting signifies that the “non-technical and unlawful” nature of Shaheed’s report, and consequently the Iranian parliament does not feel the need to respond to such a report, Elahian said.
