Iran kabbadi wins Asian Beach Games

Iran condemned its powerful opponents to a 39-33 defeat on Friday to win the games for the first time.

The Iranian team trounced Sri Lanka 50-23 on Thursday to plant the country’s flag in the final of the games.

Pakistan landed in the final after edging India 32-30 in the second semifinal of the tournament.

Abdolhamid Maghsoodloo coached the Iranian team which comprised of Me’raj Sheikh, Kinaoosh Naderian, Soleiman Pahlevan, Mohammad Maghsoodloo, Farhad Rahimi, and Abbas Krooki.

In the 2nd Asian Beach Games, which were held in Muscat, Oman, in December 2010, the Iranian kabbadi team won bronze, after India and Pakistan.

The 2012 Asian Beach Games kicked off in Haiyang, China on June 19.

Iran partook in the Kabbadi, soccer, roller speed skating and volleyball events of the games.
