Iran, Jordon play out draw in friendly

Jordon opened the scoring five minutes from the break, when Ahmad Hael dribbled the ball past a confused and sluggish Iranian defensive line and drove an inch-perfect side-foot effort past Iranian goalkeeper Mehdi Rahmati.

The Jordanians doubled their lead nine minutes into the second half, when they were awarded a penalty after Rahmati had brought down their striker in the box. Abdullah Saleh converted from the spot for the Reds in the 55th minute.

Iran then piled up the pressure and the Iranian captain Ali Karimi pulled one back in the 67th minute with a header after the ball was redirected by his teammate Hadi Aqili.

The goal, however, seemed to be mere consolation for the Iranian side until Mohammad Qazi came to the rescue in injury time with another powerful header past the Jordanian goalkeeper.

Iran is preparing for the February 29th World Cup Qualifier against Qatar at Tehran’s Azadi stadium.
