Iran, Italy ink 3 aviation MoUs

TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran and Rome signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday to boost their mutual cooperation in the field of aviation.

The MoUs were signed by the Iranian and Italian aviation officials on the sidelines of Inotex Exhibition which is underway in Tehran.

Iran and Italy have agreed to cooperate on designing and manufacturing passenger planes with a capacity of 40 passengers.

The Inotex 2016 Exhibition opened on May 22 and it will last until May 25.

In mid-April, Director General of the Organization for International Affairs at the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Abbas Nazari said Italy has agreed to cooperate in two intercity railway construction projects.

Speaking to reporters, Nazari said based on an agreement, a number of Italian companies will help build high-speed railway systems for Qom-Arak and Tehran-Hamedan routes.

He said Iran and Italy are also to cooperate in building centers for conducting engine tests and training.

According to the official, the projects will receive insurance cover from Italy’s Sace Company.

Iranian officials have already announced that Italian insurance agency Servizi Assicurativi del Commercio Estero (SACE) is ready to cover Tehran-Rome deals up to an unlimited ceiling.

This comes as Iran and Italy also signed 12 contracts to cooperate in trade in early April.

Chairman of Iran-Italy Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Mines Ahmad Pourfallah said the agreements were signed in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Mohammadreza Nematzadeh.

He said negotiations are also underway between Iranian and Italian trade delegations to discuss further cooperation in economy, trade and banking.

According to the official, the discussions include cooperation in oil, gas, electricity, power plant, steel, textile, fashion, car, infrastructure, urban planning and architecture, telecommunication, railway, airport construction, shipping, refinery, and petrochemicals.

He said the Italian economic delegation including 70 economic firms is the ninth delegation which traveled to Iran after the nuclear deal and the lifting of sanctions.
