Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh and the agency’s Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Herman Nackaerts opened the talks in Vienna on Friday.
On May 25, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano released his latest report on Iran, confirming the lack of any diversion in the country’s nuclear energy activities, which are closely monitored by the UN nuclear agency’s inspectors.
Amano’s report was issued after his talks with senior Iranian officials in Tehran on May 21.
Following his visit to Iran, the IAEA chief said Iran and the agency made a decision to reach an agreement aimed at resolving issues related to the country’s nuclear energy program.
“A decision was made by me and [Iran’s top nuclear negotiator] Mr. [Saeed] Jalili to reach an agreement on the structured approach,” Amano said.
