Khalil Ismail, a Turkish researcher told Press TV that the Islamic movement initiated by Imam Khomeini altered the global balance of power.
“Imam Khomeini’s Islamic movement shook up the equation of power in the world and created a new order in the bipolar world,” he said, adding that “In this new order Islam came into prominence as the democratic and religious power on the world stage.”
Shirin Mostowfi, an Afghan MP said that “Imam Khomeini had proved to the world that Islam is not only a religion but it is a complete political system.”
Imam Khomeini, who overthrew Pahlavi monarch Mohammad-Reza Shah regime back in 1979 and established the Islamic Republic of Iran, believed that the keys to the victory of the Islamic revolution were the faith in God, reliance on the people and unity in words and action.
Imam Khomeini changed the lives of Iranians and inspired countless others in the world by guiding one of the greatest revolutionary movements of modern history to victory.
Ayatollah Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, eleven days after he was taken to hospital for an operation to stop internal bleeding.
Iranians across the country and outside Iran have held mourning ceremonies to mark the departure of Imam Khomeini.
Meanwhile, a large number of people and officials are to attend a ceremony at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in the south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
