IRNA – The Iranian minister of health, who is visiting Pakistan, said the implementation of bilateral agreements between the two countries especially those related to export of Iranian pharmaceutical products would be discussed with Pakistani authorities.
Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi made the remarks while talking to reporters soon after his arrival at Islamabad airport on Monday morning to take part in the meeting of World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean.
The meeting of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean is being held in Pakistan’s Islamabad from October 9 to 12.
Responding to a question of IRNA, the minister said that during the visit he will be discussing the implementation of bilateral agreements in health sector with Pakistani authorities.
He added,’ During my stay in Islamabad, I will meet with Pakistan’s Minister of Health, the head of the World Health Organization, as well as the regional director of the organization.’
Qazizadeh Hashemi stressed the need for enhancing cooperation among the regional countries in the health sector saying that he would also be discussing common challenges during meetings with his counterparts of the neighboring states.
He added that Iran is playing an active role in the World Health Organization and is taking positive steps for improvement of health facilities in the region.
The minister said the meeting of World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean would take important decisions beneficial for the whole region.
He also said that there is a dire need to pay attention to the problems of the people of Myanmar, Syria and Yemen.
Qazizadeh Hashemi besides addressing this global meeting will also meet his Pakistani counterpart Saira Afzal Tarar.
During his two-day visit of Pakistan he will hold important meetings with health ministers of Qatar, Oman, Iraq and Morocco.
More than 250 public health representatives and experts will discuss important public health priorities for countries of the region in the meeting.
Earlier in a statement, Pakistan’s Minister for Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar said the mega health event in Pakistan is reflective of the country’s increasing role as a major player in global health.
The Regional Committee will also endorse a proposed updated framework for action on climate change and health.
